The Gowanda Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. is partnering with the NYS DEC, Lake Erie Chapter of International Fly Fishers and Bill's Flies to introduce future generations of all ages to the sport of fishing, by providing a hands-on clinic, where upon completion the adults and kids will have gained enough knowledge to safely get started fishing the waterways.
The clinic will be a hands-on/interactive catch and release event:
All ages, Adult accompaniment required for all youth participants
Open to anyone that wants to learn how to fish
Dress accordingly for the weather, as classroom type stations will be outdoors at the fire hall and also on the Cattaraugus Creek
Fishing poles and tackle available to borrow. Bait provided.
DEC designated FREE FISHING EVENT. No fishing license needed by participants of any age during event hours only. All other Freshwater Fishing regulations still apply.

The adults and kids will learn the basics from the ground floor up including:
The necessary gear including rods, reels, line, casting, knots, baits, etc.
The fish and their behaviors
Techniques used when first starting out
The locations and timing when to have the best success
Beginner fly fishing
Fly Fishing Station
Water Safety
Pre-registration online is required as seating is limited to 100
