I would like to start off by telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Angelina Shaw, I am 16 years old and I attend Gowanda Central School. I plan on attending the STEM program this coming year. My younger brother Seth Shaw had a lemonade stand in front of McCormack’s Hardware Store on West Main Street this past summer. He was raising money for the Gowanda Ambulance Service to help purchase equipment. He was on the news for his work on raising the money for the EMT’s. This was his second year of doing a lemonade stand. Our family believes in giving back to the community, so I would like to do a fundraiser for the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Company. We will be selling hot chocolate and my younger sister Cora (age 5) will be selling bracelets on different dates and times throughout the year in and around Gowanda. I chose the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Company because, when Gowanda flooded in 2009, my family was rescued from our house by the fire department during the flood. When they arrived at my house during the flood, they made me feel safe. I was only 3 years old at the time. Our house was eventually torn down after the flood due to all the damage it received. It was hard on me and my family, but the community was there and helped us when we needed it. My mom has told me, that when she was a young child, her house had burned and the fire department was there for her family. I would love to give something back to the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Department for their help to my family and the community. All the proceeds I raise, will be donated to the fire department. We have had conversations with the members of the fire department on what equipment or needs they have. I will be setting up our stand on several dates at McCormack’s Hardware Store. Mr. McCormack is a wonderful and amazing person. He is always willing to support this community and help in any way he can. The fire department would like the money raised to go towards the purchase of a new portable pond. The cost is $3000 for a 2000 gallon foldable tank to go on their tanker truck. Our goal is to raise $4000.
Here are a few dates I will be at McCormack’s, October 29th, November 12, 26 and December 10th. Will be there on December 3rd for the Christmas in Gowanda, with additional dates to be announced.

A portable water tank is a temporary collapsible tank designed for the reserve storage of water in firefighting, emergency relief, etc. These tanks can be either supported or unsupported. The supported tanks have a steel or aluminum frame and range in size from 600 to 5000 US gallons or larger by custom design. These portable units are used mostly in rural settings where there is no fire hydrants. Other tanker trucks will dump into these ponds and a fire truck will draft out of these to provide a water supply in the extinguishment of a fire.
The members of the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Company are appreciative and would like to give a huge thank you to the Shaw family for their thoughtfulness and efforts in supporting the fire department. If you would like to donate directly to the fire department and support Angelina's efforts, please click on the link below. The link is to our fire department account. In the memo field (note), please list portable pond so we can keep track and let the Shaw family know of their efforts. Thank you.
